Canvas’ 12 Days of Giving Back

It's officially the most wonderful time of the year & what could be more wonderful than giving back this holiday season?

Across our Canvas properties we’re going to be encouraging our residents and team members to come together and give back. So whether that’s volunteering time with a local charity, taking steps for a more sustainable holiday season or simply reaching out and spending quality time with a friend or loved one, this Christmas is all about kindness. Don’t forget to tag us in @canvas_studentuk on your 12 days of giving back, we love to hear from you and spread some festive cheer.

Support a Local Charity

Sustainable snowflakes & more

Fancy getting craft this Christmas? Why not get creative and make your own sustainable decorations to spruce up your room. There’s plenty of decoration ideas out there and make sure you come and chat to your Reception team to get some supplied. Don’t forget to share your creations on social media and tag us in.

Walking in a Winter wonderland

4th december

We can give back to our planet too, so try walking instead of using public transport for a day. Grab a coffee to go in your Canvas re-usable coffee cup and don’t forget to bundle up in your cosiest knitwear from the chill.

Donating to a food bank

5th december

Christmas can be a difficult time for people so why not make a food bank donation with your Reception team to give to those in need over the holiday season. You can also usually do this in a number of supermarkets, keep an eye out on your next shop.

Charitable gifts

6th december

Have a shop around when you’re looking for gifts this year as there’s a whole bunch of lovely sustainable gifting companies plus ones that will also make charity donations when you purchase from them. Don’t forget to spread the word and let us know who your favourites are.

Have a Cuppa

7th december

The holidays can be hard and sometimes a little lonely. Check in with friends, neighbours or loved ones – even if they’re far away, a virtual cuppa and a chat can really lift the spirits. Don’ forget, we’re a community here at Canvas and we’ve got plenty of special events planned for you to join in. Or, just fancy a more low key cuppa and a chat? Come and see us at Reception, we’ll get the kettle on…

Go Vegan for the Day

8th december

With so many delicious vegan options out there, why not give it a try for the day? Maybe they’ll be some foods that you want to continue to incorporate into your daily routine.

Support local

9th december

Check out independently run shops, restaurants and cafes and show your support this holiday season. You might uncover a new hidden gem.

Christmas Jumper Day

10th december

Happy Christmas Jumper Day! At Canvas, we love a Christmas jumper – the more festive and over the top, the better! So join us in donning your snazziest sweater all in aid of Save the Children charity – you’ll be able to donate at your Canvas reception.

Volunteer with a Charity

11th december

Charities are always looking for extra help, especially at this time of year. Volunteer with a local charity to donate your time this Christmas. Ask your Reception team for recommendations in the local area.

Make your own Christmas Cards

12th december

Show a loved one or friend that you’re thinking about them and send them a handmade and sustainable Christmas card. It’s also a great excuse to get creative. Ask your Reception team for supplies.
